Earth, Sky And Waves

I’ve been feeling a bit upset this week, what with all the drama, so I took myself off on a walk to cheer myself up. As usual, it lifted my spirits, and also (as usual) meant I saw some great sights.

This is an art installation down at Bicentennial Park in Glebe. It is part of a work entitled Earth V Sky by artist Allan Giddy. You can read about it here. I don’t know what the local birds think of it, but it is quite striking to see the turbine against the sky.

I was in at Circular Quay the other day and was struck by what an iconic, stunning building the Opera House is. We Sydneysiders sure do have a beautiful Harbour. Sometimes I forget.

This lovely Masked Lapwing was intent on finding some delicious grubs in the grass. I love his long, skinny legs.

PINK! PINK! Is there anything more glorious than the sight of pink in the sunlight?

More hairy Australian flora, definitely modelled on The Addams Family’s Cousin It. I think this is a Banksia Serrata but I could be wrong. (Check out more banksias here.) A lot of tourists stop and take photos of the banksias, they can’t believe how hirsute they are.

What better reminder of where we are, who we are and why we are than the superb, dazzling against the blue sky splendour of the Anzac Bridge. Topped off with the mighty Aussie flag. Makes you feel good on a cold, winter’s day. Aussie Aussie Aussie Oy Oy Oy…..

The power of the sea. It’s indisputable. Feeeling stressed? Feeling disheartened? The Little Book Of Calm not working for you? Come down to the bay, dangle your legs over the breakwater and listen to the soothing sounds of the lapping waves. Forward, back. Forward, back. Clear, frothy. Clear, frothy. Settling sorrowful hearts. There is nothing better.

Thanks again for strolling with me. It was fun to walk with you.
